  • Salonnière is a Detroit-based independent cultural organization with a mission to introduce traditionally underrepresented voices in art and culture globally. Salonniere advocates for artists, thought leaders, and creative talent via projects, global partnerships, cultural programming, exhibitions, brand partnerships, content curation, talk programs, and salon-style experiences. Salonnière means “the woman who holds Salons” in French. We use an immersive cultural model inspired by the historic women-led salons in Harlem, Paris, Cairo, Buenos Aires, and globally.

  • Salonnière aims to create immersive art and culture programming, experiences and projects to unite people from different backgrounds. Salonniere’s mission is to introduce traditionally underrepresented voices in art and culture globally.

  • Everyone. Salonnière events are open to a diverse group of community participants, including artists, activists, art enthusiasts, chefs, collectors and thought leaders interested in art and culture, new ideas, exchange and social change.

  • These salons are hosted in unique venues globally, such as art collector homes, private living rooms, artists studios, hotels, and historic spaces, both locally and globally.

Salonniere’s home is in Detroit’s Paradise Valley neighborhood at 311 East Grand River where it curates the Salonniere Social Club, an engaging program of Detroit and global art exhibitions, talks, culture programming, fashion collaborations and educational and community workshops, and other arts and social club activities.

  • DETROIT SALON is Detroit’s landmark global contemporary art event and exhibitions platform. Its mission is to strengthen access and visibility for Detroit and Michigan’s artists and creative communities on a national and international stage through global partnerships with leading art and culture organizations, exhibitions and a major new global contemporary art event in Detroit in 2028. Executed in collaboration with civic, cultural, and global partners, and developed by Salonniere, the platform connects local artists with global audiences, collectors, curators, critics and institutions through a dual approach: outbound exhibitions at leading art shows and fairs and inbound programming that welcomes the global art world to Detroit. From 2028 onward, DETROIT SALON will continue biannually as a city-wide major contemporary art event that reimagines the art show model through a Midwest lens of inclusion, hospitality, and cultural exchange. It is a women-led, fiscally-sponsored nonprofit since 2023.

  • Detroit and Michigan have the talent, infrastructure and resources for this same type of artistic transformation. Integrating metro Detroit’s world-class cultural institutions and artists within the highest levels of the global art world, a signature city-wide contemporary art initiative and expo will put Detroit on the global art map. It will increase access, diversity and inclusion in the art market by celebrating Detroit’s brilliant and diverse artists and communities.

  • The first Detroit contemporary art show will launch in 2028 and be promoted globally 2025-28 with Detroit exhibitions and media at world-class art world events beginning in 2025.

  • During a 2024 patron trip to Paris, Salonnière aimed to create engagement in Paris and a cultural exchange between Paris and Detroit. This type of outreach ensures that Detroit artists and ecosystem have access and a seat at the table internationally.

  • Artists for the 2024 cultural exchange were chosen because of their role on the Srtists Advisory Committee (AAC). These artists provided additional advice and consultation in Paris related to exhibitions sites, artists needs, hotel and logistics. Artists did not learn about the Paris cultural exchange until the end of their service on the AAC. Artists for 2025 DETROIT SALON exhibitions in Paris were selected through an industry standard nominations process. Over 50 community nominators (organizations and individuals) nominated close to 100 Michigan artists, which have been sent to a selection jury of local, national and global jurors. Final artists selection by August 25.

For 2026-2028 exhibitions, artists will be chosen through a transparent, equitable open call, targeting January 2026 for the release of the open call in advance of exhibitions in June in Basel and October 2026 in London.
